Newgrange Passage Tomb
£53.00
Beautifully handcrafted in the hear of Derry!
The Newgrange monument, dated at 5,200 years old, is located in the Boyne Valley, Co. Meath, in Ireland's Ancient East. Once classified by archeologists as a passage tomb, it is now recognized as a multi-purpose Temple where astronomical, religious and spiritual practices were performed. Constructed by Stone Age farmers, the monument is surrounded by 97 organized 'kerbstones', some of which are decorated with highly ornate megalithic carvings. Newgrange is part of a complex of ancient monuments constructed along the bend of the River Boyne, known collectively as Brú na Bóinne, featuring as many as 35 mounds. Newgrange is perhaps most famous for its passage and chamber, which is illuminated by the Winter Solstice sun. The remarkable accuracy of the constructed sun beam illumination allows us to determine that Newgrange more than 500 years older than the Great Pyramids and over 1000 years older than Stonehenge.
